Alabama: House Committee Passes Lifetime Carry Permit Bill

Gun Rights

Today, the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee voted to advance Senate Bill 308 to the House floor. This bill creates the option of a statewide, lifetime carry permit for a cost of $300. The original bill had a $200 fee. The sheriffs wanted to raise the fee to an exorbitant $500. The Senate ended up passing the bill with the $300 fee it has now. Fortunately, the NRA was successful in adding a rebate clause in the Senate for anyone who is required by their sheriff to purchase a 1-year or 5-year permit prior to purchasing a lifetime permit. In most circumstances, that will bring the actual cost back to the original goal of $200. NRA expects no further changes to this on the House floor.
