The problem is that laws that seek to divest the law abiding of their gun right have rights that are, in the words of the Framers, dependent on continued gun rights, so infringing on gun rights infringes on free speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, the right to a fair and speedy trial, and so on.
Further, there is a quite respectable payout in a New Jersey bank for the first person who will come forward with proof that some restrictive gun law, somewhere, and some time, has reduced crime, made people safer, or resulted in any outcome other than a massive increase in violent crime rates.

The gun ban lobby the NEA supports has not spent5 a thin dime or taken an hours time to work on actual gun safety, instead spending money contributed for gun safet to undermining the Bill of Rights.
And it is time for that to stop. Period.
