NEA Claims “Guin Safety” Is Not An Infringement On Our Rights – But Their Definition Of “safety” Costs Lives

Gun News

The National Educational Association claimes “Gun Safety” as they define it is not a threat to our civil rights. http://www.nea.org/home/55527.htm

The problem is that laws that seek to divest the law abiding of their gun right have rights that are, in the words of the Framers, dependent on continued gun rights, so infringing on gun rights infringes on free speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, the right to a fair and speedy trial, and so on.

Further, there is a quite respectable payout in a New Jersey bank for the first person who will come forward with proof that some restrictive gun law, somewhere, and some time, has reduced crime, made people safer, or resulted in any outcome other than a massive increase in violent crime rates.

As far as actual gn safety – counted by the number of people being shot either deliberately of by accident, accidental firearms ubhyrt are diwt 73% since 1993m abd t, e bynber if firearms facilitated crimes reported to the police has fallen from 785,000 in 1993 ti 410m000 in 2016, according to the CDC and the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Those are real world declines in gun violence, accompanied by a spectacular decline in the percentage of criminals who regularly carry guns:

All that improvement in safety came because of relaxed gun laws demanded by the more than 150 million adult and law abiding gun owners.

The gun ban lobby the NEA supports has not spent5 a thin dime or taken an hours time to work on actual gun safety, instead spending money contributed for gun safet to undermining the Bill of Rights.

And it is time for that to stop. Period.
