WA Bills on Gun Safety and Wages Fail to Pass Deadline

In Washington state, a series of proposed bills concerning gun safety, minimum wage, and environmental regulations fail to move forward as the legislative session reaches its first critical deadline. Among the defeated measures is House Bill 1504, which would have mandated liability insurance for gun owners; another notable casualty is a minimum wage proposal aimed at raising hourly pay to $25 by 2031.

Several other bills designed to address traffic safety and methane emissions also did not advance, underscoring the difficult landscape lawmakers face when introducing new legislation. For instance, the controversial “Cow Fart Bill,” aimed at measuring methane from dairy farming, faced significant pushback and ultimately stalled. With another deadline looming for funding-related bills, the fate of several policy measures remains uncertain as the session progresses.
