Arming of GWPD Officers Leads to Departures Due to Safety Issues







The chaotic rollout of the policy has reportedly created a strained work environment, resulting in a “mass exodus” of experienced officers. Notably, three of the department’s six top officers left in a matter of months, raising concerns about community safety amidst claims that several armed officers were initially carrying unregistered firearms on campus. As the GWPD struggles with staffing shortages and ongoing turnover, former sergeants publicly decry the lack of transparency and training that could jeopardize the safety of students and faculty.
