Staff reports that the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation earlier today presented 26 awards recognizing the best of preservation in Georgia during its 45th annual Preservation Awards ceremony in Augusta. Academy Lofts in Atlanta’s Adair Park neighborhood received the Marguerite Williams Award, presented annually to the project that has had the greatest impact on preservation in the state.

Trevor Williams reports that Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority unveiled three electric buses on Earth Day that will make their debut on the streets of Atlanta May 1 thanks to knowhow from around the world. The buses are made by New Flyer Industries, a manufacturer based in Winnipeg, Canada, that has delivered 1,200 buses to MARTA since it started reducing emissions by purchasing compressed natural gas models starting in 1996.

Brian Kemp signed seven bills he says will support law enforcement officers throughout Georgia and toughen penalties for criminals. “Every single criminal in Georgia is on notice; they will find nothing but trouble and punishment in our state,” Kemp said during remarks before signing House bills 1134,1188, 1216 and 1441 and Senate bills 84, 358 and 479.
