Utah: Gov. Cox Signs Bill Protecting Second Amendment Rights

Gun Rights

Yesterday, Governor Spencer Cox signed Senate Bill 115, to enhance Utah’s firearm preemption law. With this action, Governor Spencer Cox continues to show his commitment to the Second Amendment, adding to the list of pro-gun bills he has signed into law, which includes constitutional carry from last year.

Senate Bill 115 enhances Utah’s existing firearm preemption statute by providing a mechanism to ensure compliance. Firearm preemption occupies the field of firearm laws and regulations with the state, preventing localities from enacting their own gun control, which in turn could create a confusing patchwork of regulations and ordinances. This helps ensure consistency in firearm laws throughout the state of Utah.

The NRA would like to thank Governor Cox for signing this important legislation, along with the bill sponsors Sen. Chris Wilson and Rep. Cory Maloy, and the many other legislators who championed this bill, including Rep. Karianne Lisonbee.
