Mother of Club Q shooter sues Colorado police officers

Laura Voepel, mother of the Club Q shooter, files a lawsuit against five officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department, alleging that they violated her constitutional rights on the night of her son’s attack. The suit claims officers entered her home without a warrant and subsequently locked her outside in freezing conditions, ultimately arresting her for disorderly conduct when she became emotional following the news of the tragedy.

The incident dates back to November 2022, when Anderson Aldrich opened fire in the LGBTQ nightclub, resulting in five fatalities and numerous injuries. Voepel, who was unaware of the horrific events occurring at the time, now seeks damages from the officers in their personal capacity, emphasizing the importance of protecting citizens’ rights during police investigations. The lawsuit raises significant constitutional questions amid ongoing community recovery from the mass shooting.
