Alabama: Governor Ivey Signs Gun Owner Data Privacy Bill

Gun Rights

On Monday, May 6th, Governor Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 281, the gun owner financial privacy bill, into law. NRA thanks Governor Ivey, Senator Tim Melson, Representative Shane Stringer, House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, Senate President Will Ainsworth, Senate Pro Tem Greg Reed, and all legislators who voted to pass this critical protection for firearm owners.

SB 281 prohibits the use of firearm/ammunition specific merchant category codes by payment processors. This is an important protection for gun owners, preventing the misuse of private purchasing information by third parties. For more information click here.

This is a critical victory for law-abiding gun owners across the state of Alabama! Thank you to all NRA members and fellow Second Amendment advocates who engaged with their legislators to help advance this legislation. Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for future updates regarding your Second Amendment rights in Alabama.
