Maine: New Red Flag Bill Hearing Scheduled for Friday

Gun Rights

On Friday, April 5th, the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary will be holding a public hearing on LD 2283, An Act to Enact the Crisis Intervention Order Act to Protect the Safety of the Public. This Red Flag bill expands ”Extreme Risk Protection Orders” that empower the government to strip you of your Second Amendment rights without due process based on weak and nebulous standards. NRA members and Second Amendment supporters are urged to contact committee members NOW and request they oppose this extreme gun control bill.

LD 2283 is a last-minute submission by Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross (D-Portland) to replace Maine’s Yellow Flag law with a more extreme Bloomberg-style Red Flag law. This Hail Mary attempt by anti-gun lawmakers in Augusta has prompted major push back, including Sen. Matt Harrington (R-York) calling the tactics “absurd” on the Senate floor. If passed, LD 2283 would remove protective barriers and streamline the process for government officials to strip you of your Second Amendment rights without due process.

Again, please use the Take Action button to contact your lawmakers NOW and urge them to oppose Michael Bloomberg’s gun control package in Maine. Continue to check your inbox and NRA-ILA for updates concerning your Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage.
