Virginia: House of Delegates Passes Semi-Automatic Firearm Ban

Last week, the Virginia House of Delegates passed House Bill 2, legislation that bans certain semi-automatic firearms, places arbitrary restrictions on magazine capacity and discriminates against young adults by limiting their ability to purchase certain firearms.

Firearms banned under this bill include certain rifles, pistols, and shotguns that were manufactured after July 1, 2024. Shotguns that hold more than seven rounds of the shortest ammunition are prohibited. Semi-automatic rifles and pistols with a fixed magazine capacity exceeding 10 rounds are prohibited. Semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines are banned if it has one or more enumerated factors, such as a folding or collapsible stock, foregrip, sound suppressor, flash suppressor, muzzle brake, or any characteristic of the like.
