Joy Behar could hardly control her anger with Sen. Lindsey Graham on this morning’s episode of The View when she called out the Republican politician for hypocrisy at a recent Senate hearing.
While discussing the Wednesday (Feb. 1) hearing — in which CEOs like Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg were told they had “blood” on their hands for the teen deaths fueled by social media — Behar couldn’t help but take shots at the conservatives who are railing against big tech while doing nothing about curbing guns in America.
“Zuckerberg and the rest of them are very, very much guilty, and there’s nothing being done, even though in Europe they’re doing a lot to counteract the problems of the internet,” Behar said.
She continued, “What struck me as so hypocritical: Lindsey Graham yelling, ‘You have blood on your hands,’ when this man has taken tens of thousands of dollars from the NRA. What about those kids, the blood on his hands for those children who were shot in those schools?”
Behar then exclaimed, “I don’t want to listen to this virtue signaling from a bunch of liars!”
The View co-host isn’t wrong — Graham has certainly cozied up to the National Rifle Association (NRA) in recent years. In 2022, Graham was listed among the GOP politicians who received the most money from gun rights groups, clocking in at No. 4 with $284,000, per Axios.
Wednesday’s hearing brought together CEOs of Meta, TikTok, Snap, Discord and X, who were questioned about the dangers their platforms can pose to young users. Graham told Capitol Hill that social media is “dangerous” and is “destroying lives.” Warning that “the worst is yet to come,” the South Carolina senator demanded social media companies be “reigned in,” per CBS News.
“Mr. Zuckerberg, you and the companies before us, I know you don’t mean it to be so, but you have blood on your hands,” Graham said. He added, “You have a product that’s killing people.”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
