It’s no secret that Dean Cain is vocal about his conservative beliefs on social media. As such, the outspoken Donald Trump supporter is now bashing President Joe Biden’s reelection pledge to restore Roe v. Wade.
“Give me a Democratic House of Representatives and a bigger Democratic Senate, and we will pass a new law to restore and protect Roe v. Wade. I will sign it immediately,” Biden wrote on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday. “Restore Roe.”
The Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman actor, who is a member of the National Rifle Association’s board of directors, then responded: “You can’t ‘restore’ Roe, you idiot. The Supreme Court tossed it. They are a coequal branch of government. You CAN try to pass a Federal Law… but I’m sure it would be different from what the original Roe decision established.”
On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled in a case involving a challenge to a Mississippi ban on abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy (Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization), which resulted in Roe being overturned. That decision ended the federal constitutional right to safe and legal abortion in the United States, which had been in place nationwide since 1973. Since Roe fell, 14 states have outright banned abortion.
While Biden himself cannot personally fulfill his reelection pledge, he clarified at the Northern Virginia rally where he unveiled the slogan along with Vice President Kamala Harris that he is indeed ready to sign abortion rights legislation. However, the checks and balances of the American government come with a catch. “To do that we need a new Congress,” he reportedly said, calling on voters present at the campaign event to elect Democratic majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
“Since Roe was overturned, tens of millions of Americans in red states and blue marched to the polls in defense of fundamental freedoms. The voice of the people has been heard, and it will be heard,” Harris added. “Let there be no mistake. The person most responsible for taking away this freedom in America is Donald Trump.”
The ‘Restore Roe’ rallying cry doubles-down on a statement from the President published earlier this week, marking the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade: “Vice President Harris and I are fighting to protect women’s reproductive freedom against Republicans officials’ dangerous, extreme, and out-of-touch agenda. We stand with the vast majority of Americans who support a woman’s right to choose, and continue to call on Congress to restore the protections of Roe in federal law once and for all.”
