In the aftermath of Wednesday’s mass shooting on UNLV’s campus, I once again called the office of Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., in Washington, D.C. (202-225-6155) to ask one question: As a member of Congress who has taken thousands of dollars in contributions from the National Rifle Association, and who has personally been on Fox News publicly stating that the problem is not the guns but the side doors, does he feel any responsibility at all for the ongoing, frequent mass shootings?
Of course, as always, the staffer who answered the phone was not aware of the congressman’s position on this, but said my concerns would be passed along to the congressman.
The last time I called the congressman’s office in the aftermath of a mass shooting, insisting on a response, I subsequently received a boilerplate letter from him stating that there was no need for him to take any action, that it was only necessary to enforce existing laws.
We can all see how well that’s working.
