The Week Ahead: Justices To Tackle Civil Forfeiture and First Amendment

Gun Rights

The Supreme Court is back this week for the start of its October-November oral argument session, tackling three First Amendment cases and the latest effort to rein in civil asset forfeiture.

Having met behind closed doors for their usual conference Friday, the justices are expected to issue an orders list at 9:30 Monday morning announcing their actions in pending appeals. The court could take up, or reject, petitions from the National Rifle Association in a lawsuit over an alleged intimidation campaign by New York state officials and a challenge to Washington state’s ban on minor conversion therapy. With the docket far from full, the court is expected to take up several more cases over the following weeks and months.
