West Virginia: State Senator Rupie Phillips Receives NRA-ILA Defender of Freedom Award

On June 24, 2023, state Senator Rupie Phillips (R-7) will receivethe Defender of Freedom Award from the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action in recognition of histireless efforts to defend liberty and protect the interests of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen in West Virginia.

Since his time in the West Virginia Legislature began in 2010, Senator Rupie Phillips has been a strong and steady advocate for the cherished Second Amendment rights of not just the citizens of his district, but of all West Virginians.  A Member of the National Rifle Association and West Virginia Citizens Defense League, Senator Phillips has worked tirelessly to be a voice for firearms owners.  Since first elected in 2010, Senator Phillipshas taken the lead to preserve and protect the rights of law-abiding firearms owners with his sponsorship of several bills, including statewide firearms preemption in 2014; constitutional carry of firearms in 2016; and this year, SB 10, a bill that will protect law abiding adults from being forced to choose between higher education and self-defense.  His efforts were critical in the passage of these, and many more.

Representing his constituents in West Virginia in the state legislature since 2010, Senator Phillips has earned an “A+” rating from NRA-PVF.  As a recipient of the NRA-ILA Defender of Freedom Award, Senator Phillips joins an esteemed list of individuals who have gone “above and beyond” in the fight to defend the Second Amendment.
