Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action has endorsed Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) for re-election in New Jersey’s 5th district.
“Rep. Josh Gottheimer is a strong leader in the fight to keep our communities and schools safe from gun violence and has committed that if re-elected he will continue to govern with gun safety in mind,” Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts said.
Guns are among the issues where Gottheimer and his Republican challenger, Frank Pallotta, differ. Pallotta has received an “AQ” rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) Victory Fund, the highest grade they give to candidates who don’t currently hold public office.
“I will work to ensure that legislation favors New Jersey gun owners and protect those from constitutional carry states,” Pallotta said in June when he received the rating.
Gottheimer said he was “proud to be fighting alongside its ten million supporters to put an end to the crisis of senseless and preventable gun violence that has plagued our nation for far too long,”
“In June, we made effective, commonsense progress to help save lives, but there is clearly still more progress to be made,” the three-term congressman said. I stand with all Americans who are deeply frustrated by the lack of action in Washington when there are additional practical solutions that exist to save lives and make our schools, homes, and communities safer. Commonsense gun and school safety shouldn’t be a partisan issue.”
Iran Nuclear Agreement
Gottheimer was among a bipartisan group of 50 House members – 34 Democrats and 16 Republicans — who asked President Joe Biden to distribute to Congress the details of any potential agreements with Iran before the revives a 2015 agreement that had later been cancelled by President Donald Trump.
We are deeply concerned about multiple provisions that reportedly may be contained in the final language of any agreement with the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism,” the letter stated.
Two other New Jersey congressmen, Donald Norcross (D-Camden) and Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis), also signed the letter.
