Memorial Day car show in Delmont

The fifth annual car show at St. John’s Church in Delmont will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 30.

Featuring cars from the 1920s through today, proceeds from the event will be donated to the PA Hero Walk, the Westmoreland County Food Bank’s Military Share program, Clelian Heights and the Heinz VA Medical Center.

The fee to exhibit a car is $10. The afternoon will include a DJ, door prizes, 50/50 raffle and a variety of auction baskets.

‘Chalk the Walk’ in Murrysville

The Murrysville Recreation Department will host its annual “Chalk the Walk” event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 14 at Murrysville Community Park.

Participants can donate $10 and spend the morning designing their own 4-by-4-foot space along a section of the park’s walking trail. Chalk will be provided, but participants are also welcome to bring their own.

Kona Ice will be available and Bite by Café 222 will have sandwiches and bubble tea.

Preregister online at MurrysvillePArecreation.com. Walk-up registration will be available the day of the event by cash or check only. Proceeds will benefit the trail painting project at the park, 4056 Wiestertown Road.

Neighborhood park meetings

The Murrysville Recreation Department is hosting a series of neighborhood park meetings to obtain input from residents about the future of their local parks. The meetings will take place at 6 p.m. at all parks:

• May 10: Heritage Park

• May 16: Kovalcik Park

• May 17: Bear Hollow Park

• May 24: Chambers Park

• May 31: Pedora Park

Hoagie sale

Union Presbyterian Church will hold a hoagie sale from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 19 at the church, 656 Route 380 in Washington Township.

Call 412-398-7603 to order by May 8. Pick-up will be at the rear of the church.

East Suburban Citizen Advocacy to host 5K

East Suburban Citizen Advocacy will host its annual “Super Fun Run For Everyone 5K” on June 5 in Export.

Check-in for the 5K, which serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit and helps further its mission of enhancing the lives of those with disabilities, will be at 8 a.m. by the Westmoreland Heritage Trail access in Export, by the borough’s red caboose. The race will start at 9 a.m.

‘Strengthening the Thin Blue Line’ service

Murrysville Alliance Church will host a law enforcement tribute service, “Strengthening the Thin Blue Line,” at 11 a.m. May 22.

All members of law enforcement and their families are invited to attend along with the community.

AAUW book sale set for May 5-7

The Murrysville American Association of University Women and Murrysville Community Library will partner for a used book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 5-7 at the library, 4130 Sardis Road.

The sale will include books, puzzles, CDs and DVDs. Attendees are asked to bring their own bags, but additional bags will be available.

AAUW will host Carnegie Museum speaker

The Murrysville American Association of University Women will host Carnegie Museum of Natural History Director of Science, Research and Collections Rose Marie Muzika at its May 12 meeting.

Muzika will present “What Forests Teach Us About Resilience (and Ourselves),” discussing several decades of research in forest ecology, emphasizing the way scientific inquiry helps understand the lives of trees and the forests they inhabit.

The 10 a.m. meeting will take place in the Tech Nook at the Murrysville Community Library, 4130 Sardis Road, Murrysville.

Gun club to host youth day

The White Oak Rod and Gun Club in North Huntingdon will host its annual Youth Day from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 9 at the club, 600 Skellytown Road.

Boys and girls age 10 through 18 can participate in a full day of education and fun with opportunities to use air rifles, .22-caliber pistols, black powder and high-powered rifles. They can also shoot clay targets and try archery.

Lunch will be provided.

‘Boomers & Beyond’ presentation focuses on Flight 93 memorial

The former National Park Service Chief of Visitor Protection and Chief Ranger for the Northeastern U.S., Stephen Clark, will be the featured speaker at the May 10 “Boomers & Beyond” speaker series at Mother of Sorrows Church, 4202 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville.

Clark has more than 35 years of federal service and managed the five National Park Service units in beginning in 2015. He has also led and contributed to national responses for natural disasters like the Mississippi Canyon oil spill and Hurricane Maria.

The presentation will be at noon. Participants can bring a bag lunch (beverages are provided). There is no cost to attend.

Women’s tennis league needs doubles partners

The Murrysville Area Women’s Tennis League is looking for women interested in playing weekly doubles games.

The league meets from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays on the tennis courts at Franklin Regional Senior High School, 3210 School Road, Murrysville, for doubles tennis.

Games run from June 9 through Sept. 8, weather permitting.

Players sign up each week by email to indicate availability and are paired with partners to play different opponents each week.

Murrysville Business & Professional group to meet

The Murrysville Business & Professional Association meets regularly at 8 a.m. on the first Thursday of every month at Dick’s Diner, 4200 William Penn Highway, Murrysville

The association has been working with new Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce CEO Dan DeBone on expanding its offerings to include interactive workshops, guest speakers and networking events.

Int’l Women spring luncheon

The International Women group will meet at 11 a.m. May 13 for its annual spring luncheon.

All members are asked to bring a dish representing their country. It will take place at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road, Monroeville. This also will be the group’s final meeting for the 2021-22 year.

Due to covid-19 precautions, the church’s baby-sitting service is suspended.

Clay target team seeks new members

The Franklin Regional Clay Target team is accepting new members for youth in grades 6-12.

With support of the West Penn Sportsmen’s Club in Murrysville, and startup funding from the National Rifle Association, the team is seeking members with experience or those interested in learning more about firearms and clay target shooting.
