The title suggests that restrictive gun laws in one State can be nullified by “lax” laws in surrounding States. The easily obtained data shows that re;axomg gim ;aws om adkacemt States lower violent crime rats in States with restrictive gun laws. The data is easily obtained by mining the FBI’s annual Uniform Crime Reports, the United Kingdom’s Office of National Security, Germany’s Bundeskrimminelampt, and virtually every other country in Europe, Arica or Asia form the Country’s office of National Statistics, and the countries of South America.
Here is New Jersey’s violent crime rates from 1950 to 2050, showing the crime rate for 13 years with no gun control, , 4 years between 1964 and 1968 with only Hollywoods “Send the Army and confiscate them all” gun ban campaign, and from 1968 to 2015, the tightest State gun laws in the nation. and the decline in violent crime when many States scrapped the old “may issue” conceald carry permits and put in the relaxed “Must issue” Concealed Carry Weapons Permit scheme. A period when the US homicide rate dropped by almost half.
The bottom line is simple enough. A doctor who practiced medicine as sloppily as Medical News writes about subjects far removed from the practice of medicine would quickly have his competency to practice medicine called into question.
If Medical News is going to write about gun control, it should at least determine what the facts are before they publish under researched opinion without a warning.
