“Victims Of Gun Violence Plead For Change At DNC”

Gun News

Tis posts headline is a shortened version of a Yahoo headline documenting the efforts of the gun ban industry to stir up extremely restrictive gun laws at the Democratic National Convention. https://news.yahoo.com/daily-fight-victims-gun-violence-015512357.html

And that brings up what should be a sore point for every member of America’s most law abiding demographic, gun owners. Since it should be a sore point, and the best of all possible reason to throw the highbinders out, let’s look at the facts. This chart, from a recent FBI Uniform Crime Report, shows the percentage of various serious crimes “cleared by arrest.”

It should be that more than one third of all murders, and less than 30 percent of robberies are “cleared by arrest.” But what is not obvious comes from prison surveys, done as part of studies of crime.

One conclusion that the studies are almost unanimous on is the relatively small number of gun criminals, which the National Criminal Victimization Survey pegged at 410,000 offenses a year, committed by less than 30,000 individuals.

Nor will the chart tell you that active criminals commit more than90 percent of all firearms facilitated crimes, with only rape falling below that level.

And finally, the prison surveys do not usually tell you that the source of crimianl guns is not the gun dealer in town, but a gun thief a thousand miles away, who trades his booty for drugs he can sell or use.

All that would be necessary to dry up the supply of stolen crime guns would be to set a higher penalty for gun theft and gun trafficking, in accordance with the damage those illegal actions do to our society. Three years served for each gun stolen would reflect the mean damage, and five years for each gun trafficked wouldrefelct the seriousness of the crime.

But when we ask Democratic lawmakers about tougher penalties for gun theft and trafficking we are in effect told not to worry about the criminals, the problem is all these law abiding people who buy guns to kill people with that must be stopped.

And since there can be no meeting of minds with people who insist criminals are in fact well concealed altar boys, no matter how many they kill, nothing useful gets done.

It is time for a change, and the best beginning for that change is to throw those blocking rational gun laws out of office.
