Maine: Anti-Gun Work Session on Tuesday

Gun Rights

On Tuesday, January 16th, the Maine Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary will be holding a Work Session on LD 1696, “An Act to Create a Civil Cause of Action for Persons Suffering Damages Arising from the Sale of Abnormally Dangerous Firearm.” NRA members and gun-rights supporting Mainers are urged to contact committee members and request that they vote against this bill. To email committee members directly please click the TAKE ACTION button below.

LD 1696 creates a “course of action” against firearm manufacturers and retailers whose firearms are used in criminal activity. This “course of action” attempts to evade the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which protects manufacturers from being held responsible for third-party misuse. Just like it is unreasonable for an auto retailer to be held liable when a driver harms someone with their vehicle, it is unreasonable for firearm manufacturers and retailers to be held liable when their products are used in a crime.

If passed, LD 1696 would completely shut down the firearm commerce industry in Maine overnight. This unfair and egregious overstep by the anti-gun politicians in Maine must be stopped. To do your part, click the TAKE ACTION NOW button to tell committee members to vote OUGHT NOT TO PASS on LD 1696.
