Letter to the editor: Alternatives to gun control cost money

Gun Rights

All I can say is: The solutions proposed by the Maine state director for the National Rifle Association, Justin Davis, to our gun problems – fully funding our judicial system, equipping our state with more judges and prosecutors, making our schools safer and increasing access to mental health care – cost money (“Commentary: Crack down on criminals, not on gun ownership,” Sept. 16).

Where is that money going to come from? The Republicans certainly don’t want to increase government spending or to raise taxes. Does Mr. Davis?

Also, it is not easy to get a conviction in a system where the government has to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that a person committed a crime.
