Tennessee: Governor Lee Calls Special Legislative Session

Gun Rights

Governor Bill Lee called for the General Assembly to convene a special session beginning on August 21, 2023. According to Gov. Lee’s press release, the special session “will present legislative and budget priorities during the public safety special session to keep Tennessee communities safe, support law enforcement and address mental health.” The Governor’s proclamation specifically lists 18 items that the General Assembly can consider for legislation. Notably, the list allows lawmakers to introduce gun control legislation, including the “safe storage” of firearms and “temporary mental health orders of protection,” also known as “Red Flag” laws.  You can view the Governor’s proclamation here

NRA-ILA is closely monitoring legislation as it is introduced and will be in Nashville for the special session. Stay tuned to your inbox and www.nraila.org for updates.
