North Carolina: Pistol Permit Repeal Scheduled for House Committee Hearing

Gun Rights

Tomorrow, March 7, the House Judiciary 3 Committee is expected to hear and vote on House Bill 101, a bill that repeals the permit-to-purchase a pistol requirement and recognizes law-abiding citizens’ right to self-defense while attending a church with a school attached. Unfortunately, this bill was combined with several other unrelated bills, which makes it more difficult for good 2A legislation to pass. Your immediate assistance is needed! Please contact the committee members and ask them to SUPPORT House Bill 101.

Expediency is more important than ever when it comes to the right of self-defense. The permit-to-purchase system was created before modern, computerized background checks existed. The federal NICS checks, that licensed firearms dealers conduct, are often completed in minutes. Repealing the permit-to-purchase requirement ensures that law-abiding citizens can exercise their Second Amendment rights without this unnecessary obstacle and fee that is also a burden on law-enforcement resources.

HB 101 also ensures that law-abiding citizens can defend themselves and their loved ones. So-called “gun-free zones” are arbitrary boundaries that only disarm law-abiding citizens and leave them defenseless, while doing nothing to deter criminals.
