Illinois House Forms Committee to Address Gun Violence

The newly established Illinois House Gun Violence Prevention Committee is poised to introduce significant gun control legislation, with a focus on restricting firearm access to individuals with certain misdemeanor convictions. State Rep. Daniel Didech, representing Buffalo Grove, is spearheading a bill that would prevent out-of-state individuals convicted of misdemeanor stalking offenses—which would be classified as felonies in Illinois—from obtaining firearms.

This initiative reflects a broader effort in Illinois to strengthen gun laws amid ongoing debates about public safety and gun violence. The committee’s formation comes as lawmakers and advocates push for more stringent measures, signaling a renewed commitment to addressing firearm-related issues in the state.
