Colorado House Advances New Ammunition Purchase Law

The Colorado House passes a bill aimed at changing ammunition sales rules, requiring purchasers to be at least 21 years old. The legislation also mandates that ammunition be removed from store sales floors and stored behind the counter, in an effort to improve safety for young people and the community at large.

Supporters argue this law mirrors previous regulations that raised the gun purchase age and enhances security by limiting easy access to ammunition. If enacted, gun stores will have until July 2026 to comply with the new rules, which include provisions for age verification during ammunition delivery. The bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
