Superman star Dean Cain left Good Morning Britain viewers in stitches this morning after he referred to President-elect Donald Trump with a term the businessman would have found less than endearing.

The actor, best known for his role as Clark Kent in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, appeared on ITV‘s morning show, voted for the 78-year-old in this week’s US election, helping spur him onto a shock victory yesterday.

Cain, 58, has defended Trump’s election as the first ever convicted felon to be made the leader of the free world – and the first to be elected with pending criminal trials hanging over him.

He told GMB that Americans didn’t elect their president on the basis that they are ‘the sweetest guy or girl in the world’ – and hailed Trump’s bravery for continuing to campaign after an attempt on his life in Pennsylvania in July.

But he then went on to address the soon-to-be 47th President as something that Trump would very much insist he is not.

‘I honestly believe that God had a hand in saving him and turning his head, and I think that the world is a different place today because Donald Trump is pregnant,’ Cain said, without missing a beat.

He then backtracks and grimaces as he clarifies: ‘He’s President – not pregnant.’

One eagle-eyed viewer on X, formerly Twitter, spotted the remark, writing: ‘Dean Cain on telly there accidentally saying “Now that Donald Trump is pregnant…”.’

Cain continued with his defence of the 45th President, calling him an ‘extremely brave guy’ following the Pennsylvania shooting as he spoke to Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.

‘(Trump is) such a wonderfully warm and wonderful guy when you speak with him too,’ Cain said.

‘I think people are going to be surprised at how well he leads, how well everything is put together. I think he has changed a little bit (since his last term).’

Cain was set for a promising American football career before a knee injury forced him to change course – appearing in advertisements and in bit parts on TV shows.

But he rose to real fame after his winning smile, good looks and chiselled frame won him the part of Clark Kent in The New Adventures of Superman. He later appeared in other comic book roles in Smallville and Supergirl

Cain has wavered politically over the years – voting for Bill Clinton twice before backing Al Gore in the 2000 election which Gore lost to George W Bush.

He then switched from the Democrats to the Republicans and registered as a Republican Party member before later registering as an Independent voter.

The Mail interviewed him at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee earlier this year – perhaps suggesting he has thrown his weight behind the Grand Old Party once more.

He remains a board member of the National Rifle Association, elected for a further three years in May this year, but has previously described himself as ‘very leftist’ on social issues such as marijuana legalisation.

However, he snapped up a $4million mansion in Las Vegas last year and moved out of his long-time home of California because of the famously liberal state’s politics.

‘I love California. It’s the most beautiful state. Everything’s wonderful about it except for the policies,’ Cain told Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade.

‘The policies are just terrible. The fiscal policies, the soft-on-crime policies, the homelessness policies.’

And appearing on Fox News earlier this year, Cain said he was ‘endorsing President Trump 100 per cent, no question about it’ after fellow macho man Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson refused to back a particular candidate for the 2024 face-off.

WWE wrestler turned actor Johnson had backed Joe Biden for the presidency in 2016 – but this year said he would keep his politics to himself because the endorsement caused ‘an incredible amount of division’.

But Cain said he would ‘never withhold an endorsement because I’m not that smart’.

He added of The Rock’s silence: ‘He’s just going to sell his movies, he’s going to sell his football league, he’s going to sell his WrestleMania, and he’s going to sell his tequila, because he’s a businessman.’
