JACKSON COUNTY, MI – U.S. Rep Tim Walberg was elected to serve another term in Congress, covering Jackson County, in the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election.
Walberg, R-Tipton, was declared the winner in the 5th District, defeating Democratic candidate Libbi Urban of Buchanan and Green Party candidate James Bronke of Cassopolis.
So far, Walberg has received about 70% of the votes, with Urban receiving 28.6% and Bronke receiving 1.6%. About 30% of votes had been counted.
In a statement Walberg said he’s visited and listened to the concerns of residents in the district and provided solutions in Congress. Issues include inflation, immigration and the economy, he said.
“Many constituents are familiar with my record, but for the western portion of the district, this was the first term I represented them,” Walberg said. “While I’m proud to have earned such an overwhelming victory, I’m eager to get back to work so we can forge a brighter future.”
The 5th District covers the southern border of Michigan, including Jackson, Hillsdale and Lenawee counties, parts of Calhoun and Berrien counties and Monroe and St. Joseph.
Walberg had served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District since 2011, and also represented the district from 2007-09. He will serve another two-year term, starting Jan. 1, 2025, in the 5th District.
Walberg refers to himself as Michigan’s “most conservative congressman,” according to his website. He also had endorsements from Right to Life and the National Rifle Association.
