“If somebody breaks into my house, they’re getting shot,” U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris declared to Oprah Winfrey on a special star-studded town hall event Thursday. “I’m a gun owner too.”

Pow! No silencer could quiet down that loud blast.

Go ahead and make her day!

Certainly bullets have been flying in this election campaign. But no one expected this shot over the bow.

It raises the question: ‘Do you feel lucky today, punk?’

There was lots of Kamala’s famous laughter after she made the quip, followed by audience applause. Those in the studio seemed to think this was fantastic. But considering her past tough-on-guns stances, the former prosecutor and current Democratic nominee for president understood this may have missed the target with some of her critics.

“Probably should not have said that,” Harris mused.

It certainly would have been a bigger story and probably been a hot topic on CNN and The View had her Republican competitor for president, Donald Trump, said something about shooting anyone who breaks into his home.

“My staff will deal with that later,” Harris said.

While her choice of words seems a little cavalier in light of the two assassination attempts gunmen have made on Trump’s life, it certainly sounds like Harris can handle things all by herself and has been able to do so for a long time.

Move over Clint Eastwood. There’s a new gunslinger in town.

Maybe it’s time for some new Quick Draw Kamala hats and T-shirts to be made? In New York City this week, vendors are already selling copious amounts of merchandise for both.

“We don’t ask about people’s politics because we are just here to sell hats and shirts,” said a manufacture and vendor named Brian.

Perhaps ‘Go ahead, make her day’ hats are next?

Certainly, in and around Trump Tower and wherever they souvenirs are sold, there’s a lot of the famous “Fight, fight, fight!” Trump T-shirts available – complete with the picture of him with blood on his face from being struck by a bullet in the ear and his fist raised in the air.

People knew Trump was a bad ass after that. But who knew Harris was packing?

While Oprah said she “did not know” Harris was a gun owner, she has not hidden this from the public. While so far she has not provided the make and calibre of gun she owns or shown her licence, Harris did reference her firearm ownership during the 2019 presidential campaign and again in her recent debate with Trump.

“Tim Walz (her running mate) and I are both gun owners,” Harris said in a campaign ad. “We will not take anybody’s guns away. We can support the Second Amendment, as I do, and also agree that we need some reasonable laws. We don’t want our kids or anyone to live with that kind of fear, and there are things we can do about it.”

Media reports indicate Harris obtained her gun and licence to have one when she was a prosecutor in California and she does not have it in Washington where she lives at the vice president’s residence. Like Trump Tower in New York and Mar-a-Lago in Florida, where Trump Lives, the VP’s Washington Naval Observatory and the White House home have loads of armed security on the premises.

Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association (NRA) is skeptical of Harris on this gun issue.

“Kamala Harris is a walking contradiction,” the NRA said in one X post.

In another, the NRA wrote: “Kamala Harris is a self-described ‘radical’ who wants to weaponize the government to enter your home and confiscate your legally owned guns. Kamala’s gun-grabbing values have not changed. She’s coming for your Second Amendment freedoms.”

Or maybe she’s just reading a script like they do in the movies.

“I know what you’re thinking. ‘Did he fire six shots or only five?’ To tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I lost track myself,” Eastwood’s Dirty Harry Callahan character said in the movie. “But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?”

Of course, that’s an exaggeration of what Harris said, but any way it’s spun it was still unusual to hear coming from a potential president.

This was definitely something new in a presidential campaign. No one can quite recall a presidential candidate talking about using a gun to shoot somebody in previous campaigns.

As the famous Clint Eastwood saying from Gran Torino goes, it might wise to ‘get off her lawn.’

And don’t even think about breaking into her house.
