Mass shooters’ favorite gun is an assault rifle (AR-15). These assault rifles were used in the Uvalde, Texas,school slaughter and also used in the Sandy Hook school shooting. It was also the weapon used in the Buffalo, N.Y., supermarket shooting as well as the July 4th shooting in Gary and the Minneapolis shooting. It was also the weapon used at the Fourth of July Parade in Illinois.
Why are these killing machines allowed to be sold to the public? Why does the U.S. Congress go along with the NRA? Assault weapons should only be available and used by the U.S. Armed Forces. According to research, there are about 20 million AR-15s in the USA. That is one in five guns bought is now an assault rifle.
The assault weapon’s role is to massacre (kill). These weapons should be outlawed, not allowed to be sold to the general public.
America’s gun violence problem won’t be solved until it’s harder for people to acquire and use these guns.

My heart sank when I heard the news that the Supreme Court had overturned Roe v. Wade. As a physician, I believe there is no room for the government in the exam room. Only the patient and their doctor need to be involved in decisions regarding abortion.I was anti-abortion until my third year of medical school, when I delivered a baby born to a young girl who had just celebrated her 13th birthday. In November, I will vote for Paul Steury for U.S. Congress Indiana District 2. I will also vote for “The Women”: Zenai Brooks for state auditor, Destiny Wells for secretary of state, and Jessica McClellan for state treasurer.
“Vote Blue” is not enough. Voting in presidential elections only is not enough. We must vote for representatives that will listen to the will of the people, and the fact is that most Hoosiers and Americans believe abortion should be legal. We must elect progressives that will codify the right to abortion as an extension of our right to privacy and bodily autonomy. We must elect legislators that answer to us, the people, not corporate interests. We must tell them what we expect: full bodily autonomy and complete control of our reproductive destinies.As a pediatrician I believe that healthy, happy children start with their family’s unencumbered ability to decide if and when to have them. And you can bet on this: I will fight for any woman’s right to choose not to have an abortion, as fiercely as I will fight for another woman’s right to have one.

In a nation inundated with conspiracy theories, I guess I’ll try my hand at one. Why did the two local stations owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, WSBT (CBS) and WSBT2 (Fox), suddenly decide to cut away from the July 12 Jan. 6 Committee hearings right when two former members of right-wing extremist groups were beginning to testify about links between these groups and members of Trump’s inner circle, especially when WNDU and WBND continued to carry these hearings? Strange how a rerun of “Ellen” seems more important to Sinclair than a violent attempt to overthrow democracy.
