One way around the NRA – require insurance and licensure to purchase firearms: Letter to the Editor

Gun Rights

It’s impossible to believe Republican politicians will ever pass laws for necessary restrictions on assault weapons as long as the National Rifle Association continues to financially reward them for not doing so.

But here is an interesting idea: We must buy licenses and insurance on vehicles, because they could harm or kill and can be used as “weapons.” So why not pass laws whereby gun purchasers must have valid licenses to purchase them and must show proof of insurance? Additionally, the laws could be designed so gun owners who do not have valid licenses or insurance would face stiff fines and possible jail time. You might think this is extreme, but so is the killing of innocents every day in the United States.
