New Mexico: House Committee Defeats Legislation Protecting Your Rights During Emergencies on a Party-Line Vote

Gun Rights

Last night, the House Consumer & Public Affairs Committee defeated House Bill 279 on a party-line vote.  The measure, filed by Rep. Stefani Lord (R-Sandia Park), would have prevented future executive or Department of Health emergency orders from shutting down firearm manufacturers, retailers and shooting ranges, and denying law-abiding citizens their right to purchase, own and use firearms.  The committee did, however, advance Rep. Lord’s House Bill 306, legislation to tighten the limits for the New Mexico Department of Public Safety to approve a concealed handgun license application. Please take a quick moment to thank Rep. Stefani Lord (stefani.lord@nmlegis.gov) for fighting so hard to protect your Second Amendment rights!
