Open Secrets Repeats Long Since Falsified Gun Ban Claims

Gun News

It may be a case of the ignorant following those following the money, but Open Secrets starts an item supposedly on Gun Rights vs Gun Control.

Unfortunately, there is nothing about gun rights, only another attack on guns and gun ownership. It begins with ” Mas murder is a fact of life in the United States” and rapidly goes downhill from there. In ignoring the fact we did not have a mass murder problem until the gun ban industry demanded “gun free zones,” codified in the “Gun Free Zone Act of 1990.

We also were nip and tuck with England and Switzerland for the lowest murder rate in the world – but that was when gun rights were taken for granted and the Second Amendment was respected.

The chart below, taken from DOJ numbers since 1900, and academic sources between 1880 and 1899 shows the results of every attempt to control crime by “controlling guns.” Essentially it shows the results of punishing the law abiding for the possession of a legal product.

Back when anyone with the price could buy a gun, the US homicide rate was as low as o.4 per 100,000, or four per million. When labor problems resulted in gun control fever sweeping the country in 1905 the murder rate went vertical, and except for a decline related to WWI continued to climb until 1933, when enforcement of most restrictive gun laws ceased.

And then a concentrated campaign to “Send the Army and confiscate them all” gun control campaign began seeking to avenge the murder of President John F. Kennedy. And it is easy to see what more restrictive gun laws did to the homicide rate until 1993, when an effort was made to repeal or neuter the gun laws that had sent crime rates over the moon.

Even against billionaire funded opposition, relaxing gun laws cut the violent crime rates in half between 1993 and 2013.

But as far as the media is concerned, the decline in crime with relaxed gun laws is above top secret. And Open Secrets has fallen for one of the oldest tricks in the scammers bag of tricks.
