I see the Chicago Sun Times says “Chicago Must Go All In To End Gun Violence.” And I think the Sun Times needs to pull the blinders off and look at the bare fields. You cannot get your horses fat fat grazing bare earth. Chicago was a safe town once, before gun control. And Chicago has gone so far as to ban guns in the possession of the law abiding – resulting in a spike in murder and violent crime to third world levels. The chart below is from FBI Uniform Crime Report numbers, showing where the murder rate was before gun control in 1960, the inception of gun control drives in 1964, the start of owner registration with the de facto elimination of Black Chicagoans in 1968, “Made Man” and Alderman Fred Roti’s mob lawyer written gun ban that sent mur rates to be one of the 20 most murderous in the world followed by a decision to arrest the gang leaders who had the street cred to set and enforce gang territories. Followed by a long decline as Illinois and the courts slowly, slowly whittled away on crime rates.
As anyone can see, a sharp rise in crime followed each individual attempt to control guns. While gun control, actually a gun ban, is not the sole cause of Chicago’s bloody streets, it is by far the greatest part of that problem. In disarming the law abiding, Chicago has put the streets into the hands of the lawless, armed with guns stolen and trafficked into Chocago from places as disparage as Alaska and California.
It is time something is done, not to “address the gun problem,” but to cure the lack of guns in the hands of the law abiding.
And the sooner it becomes possible to again walk from Lemont to “Pullman, and from there to the Loop, without losing blood.
