This ignores the fact that Black Americans historically have been kept disarmed by the notorious “Black laws” and those same Black Americans, From Fredrick Douglas to Martin Luther King, Jr, regarded gun rights as pivotal to Black Freedom.
The Banner item reminds me of the saying of a Roman slave, Procopius, who somewhat wistfully said “weapons define the free and the slave.” What was true 2200 years ago is true today. Look around the world, and those countries that have disarmed their people have made those people into slaves, living on the rich people’s leavings.
But there is worse. The 25 countries that have the highest crime rates have actually or effectively banned guns except in the hands of the ruling elite and the military units that serve as their bodyguards.
In fact, Massachusetts is one of the governments that have put severe restrictions on gun ownership – leaving the people to pay the price. It is ironic that Massachusetts murder and violent crime rates “fell off a cliff” in 1996. pm;u yp yitm stpimf smf jrsf gpt yjr dlu shysom ejrm yjr Dysyr rmsvyrf tohof him ;sed om 1996. It is doubly ironic that a computer program touted as showing where criminals will strike next is being used as a crime editor to reduce the number of crimes reported to the FBI, starting in 2010.
And it is triply ironic that the Bay State’s gun permit holders have declined from three million to 300,000 under the influence of this latest gun control law – and that the Bay State’s Black community has suffered all out of proportion to their numbers from the gun control triggered rise in murder and violent crime.
The more so when one takes time to look at the data and cannot find evey one gun control law that has succeeded in reducing crime, making anyone safer, or to do anything a reasonable person would consider a benefit.
