Chicago Mayor Blames States With No Gun Laws And Low Crime Rates For City’s Soaring Violence

Gun News

Newsweek reports Chicago’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, blames surrounding States with relatively weak or nonexistent gun controls, for Chicago’s position in the top 10 violent cities list. https://www.newsweek.com/chicago-mayor-blame-states-no-gun-control-violence-1520560

But even a casual look at the facts proves Ms. Lightfoot is wrong. for 2019, Chicago’s admitted homicide rate was 19.72 murders per 100,000, largely concentrated in neighborhoods with a population of less than 800,000 of Chicago’s estimated 2.7 million population. In those neighborhoods, where you cannot legally buy a gun, the murder rate soared to 52.3 and the violent crime rate to more than 1,900 crimes per 100,000 population.

By contrast, outside Chicago, more than ten million Illinois residents outside Chicago reported only 271 murders, for a rate of 2.8 per 100,000 population. Of the two cities with crime rates approaching Chicago’s, only St. Louis and Milwaukee, both with rabidly anti-gun administrations, even come close to Chicago’s record of violence.

Chicago is the most violent major city in the United States, but it can hardly hold a candle ot nations with national gun control laws. England, for example, has a violent crime rate of 2800 per 100,000 reported cases investigated by police and “deemed credible.”

Chicago does not have a gun problem. Chicago has a gun control problem that denies Chicago’s law abiding majority the right to mount an effective defense against the criminals that arm themselves with stolen guns, purchased for one fifth of a legitimate gun dealers cost.

The Chart below shows graphicly what gun control did to Chicago’s murder rate, with the rapid rise beginning in December, 1963 in response to Hollywood’s “Confiscate them all” gun ban campaign, and then the even steeper rise triggered by the 1968 “Firearms Owners Identification Card” swindle.

So long as Chicago continues to protect the criminals at the expense of the law abiding, it will be dangerous to drive across the city limits and into the “Skunk Cabbage Patch on the Lake.”
