COVID-19 Has Killed Almost Twice The Number Of Police Officers As Gunfire In 2020

In gathering data for the monthly statistical overview, I see 51 Officers have died in the coronavirus pandemic as the 26 who have died of gunfire.

While 26 i for a half year is nothing to write home about, that suggests the yearly total will be close to 50 for the year, and the overall murder rate among LEO’s will be below 5.0 per 100,000 Officers.

That will be substantially lower than the homicide rate for the general population. This is far better than back in the early days of the latest gun control campaign when 250,000 Officers suffered the murder of 140 Officers. That year, the homicide rate for LEO’s was more than 50 per 100,000. 52 years later, we are looking at a projected rate of 40.

We have come a long way, but we have a long road ahead of us.
